More-
Elvis Presley stars in this musical comedy as a navy frogman who stumbles across buried treasure in a sunken ship and sets out to reclaim it, confronting numerous obstacles along the way, with Dodie Marshall, Pat Priest, Pat Harrington Jr and Frank McHugh in supporting roles.
This was one of Presley's last star vehicles, and though he commits to the role there's a real sense of tiredness both from him and the film as a whole. By 1967, the formula that had worked in the late 50s and early 60s now seemed dated and predictable, which makes everything feel like it's going through the motions.
Presumably the inclusion of the hippie culture was meant to make the story more contemporary,…

There's a scene early on in which the King of Rock and Roll duets with Elsa Lanchester (a looooong way from "Bride of Frankenstein") about the joys and perils of yoga (I kid you not)...and I'm pretty sure about 40 seconds into it my head was beginning to implode.
Unfortunately, I survived...which meant I still had 75 minutes left of this cinematic turd sandwich to devour. I suppose the one thing I'll give this credit for was finding a different role for Presley to play, a former U.S. Navy frogman that spots sunken Spanish gold! That sets up a whole bunch of boring underwater footage and silly double crosses, and none of it engaged me.
There's so much about this…

Mainly listened to the music.
Wasn't impressed with the story.
And the cast was annoying.π₯

Easy Come, Easy Go is the 1967 musical comedy directed by John Rich. Starring Elvis Presley and Pat Priest the story focuses on U.S Navy Officer Ted Jackeon who splits his time between deep sea diving and nightclub singer.Quick Thoughts
The 60s was a tedious time for Elvis films, in an obvious formula his appearances are made to purely sell records as his roles will often see him moonlighting as a nightclub singer. Some features get away with it but not Easy Come, East Go where his performance is lackluste and songs disappointing.Songs such as 'Yoga is as Yoga does' are poor and the overall plot lacked any real engagement for the audience. These feature films are just business deals inwhich Elvis sells records and the studio uses the star name to sell tickets.....makes sense but some of these titles are frustratingly bland.

Sometimes the difference between an above-the-line Elvis escapade and a clunker is confidence. Rather than flail at its comedy/romance/drama, this later entry in the King's filmography makes like its title and rolls smooth, surfing by with sunglasses on and waving casually at you as it passes. Although nothing about it really stands out, the elements are agreeably cheerful and everything is in its proper place. It wasn't one of his popular ones, though: the soundtrack sold poorly, Elvis himself reportedly hated the music he had to perform, and even Ebert chimed in early on in his career with a 1-star "it stinks!", but I think most of that was just Elvis fatigue in the late '60s. Taken out of context…

Awful songs, misogyny, bloat. The exhaustion is palpable. The plot has all the appeal of a half-remembered Scooby-Doo episode. But I still got excited for yoga queen Elsa Lanchester and Schneider from One Day at a Time.

When Elsa Lanchester's song about yoga is the "highlight", you know you're watching something not good.

Character: Singer / Deep Sea Diver
You can tell how embarrassed Elvis was. This man wanted to be a real actor and they made him sing a song about...yoga??

Elvis Presley's final picture with producer Hal B. Wallis and Paramount Pictures (a fruitful partnership that began ten years earlier with LOVING YOU) is tres bizarre. As bad as EASY COME, EASY GO is, at least it TRIED to do something different than past Elvis movies. Of course, "different" doesn't always mean good.
It's hard to choose which part of EASY COME, EASY GO stands out as the strangest. Is it the scene where Elvis and Elsa Lanchester sing a horrible song about yoga? Is it the fact that Elvis is teamed up with Pat Harrington on a quest for sunken treasure? Is it the fact that Elvis is denied a love interest for the majority of the picture? Or…

It's been about 6 months since I've last seen an Elvis movie. I thought that Speedway was pretty aggravating so I decided to keep a break from that scene. However, today is the birthday of Elvis Presley, so what better thing to do last night than see one of his flicks last night so the review would go up today? This isn't the best movie that The King did but it certainly did give me some things to talk about.
The plot: Elvis is a frogman (i.e. a member of the Armed Forces who does scuba diving as part of the job) in the Navy who discovers what appears to be buried treasure. Once he's out of the Navy, he…

Easy Come, Easy Go isn't a great Elvis movie, but it's a mildly interesting one in a novelty sort of way. In this one we get to see the former 1950's rock and roll bad boy Elvis Presley clash with the yoga-doing, postmodern-art-making beatniks of the 1960's (or a Hollywood caricature of them anyway) and it's strange. Elvis looks good in a black turtleneck, but the contrast between Elvis and the beatnik kids just serves to highlight that Elvis is aging and no longer the hip-with-the-kids, countercultural figure he once was.
Other than the awful yoga themed song, the music and musical performances were better than they've been in a minute. I like the swinging sixties vibes of this set…
